                                               Sandro's Zesty Series:
Ham and Pea Soup
 
 
1  Smoked pork hock (or meaty ham bone)
 2/3 cup Yellow Split Peas
10 cup Water
1 cup Chopped Onion
1 cup Sliced Carrots
1/2 cup Diced Yellow Turnip
1 cup Sliced Celery
1 cup Grated Potato
2  X  1/8 tsp Salt
2  X  1/8 tsp Pepper

Put pork hock (bone), peas, and water
into a large pot (2 liters) and stir.
Bring to a boil. Reduce heat.
Simmer for about an hour.
Remember to stir occasionally until peas are mushy.

Add the remaining 7 ingredients.
Bring that to a boil. Reduce heat.
Simmer uncovered for about 20 minutes until vegetables are tender.
Remove pork hock (bone). Cut off the meat, dice and return meat to the pot.

Makes about 10 cups of soup
